Fall Deep Cleaning

Now, although today's heat index is going to be almost 100 here in VA, our schools start on Monday. This makes my mind wander to Fall and the cooler temperatures.Which I love. I would so take cold over hot any day.
But, when I think of the changing seasons, I'm always struck with the urge to clean. Always. Spring and Fall especially. Not just clean, deep clean. And purge. When I can get rid of stuff that we don't need, use or want, it's always a good day. Here's a list of some things that I like to go through and get rid of or deep clean, which aren't normally cleaned other times of the year.

Spices and Extracts- The holiday season is just around the corner and you don't want to get stuck in the middle of a recipe and realize that your ground ginger is 8 years past the date! It's good to go through now, get rid of anything that's over a month or so past the expiration and make a list of what you need. This way, when Thanksgiving comes, you are ready!

Summer Clothing- As you are switching out your wardrobes, take stock of anything that is outgrown, what didn't get worn this year, or what needs mending. Now is a good time to pick up deals since stores are marking all summer stuff down to make room for the colder weather gear!

Freezer- If you are like me, things get put in the freezer and are never heard from again. Most things should be taken out if they are about 6-7 months after the date on the package. Or if they look freezer burnt.

Mattresses- If your mattress is flippable, now is the time to do it. If not, then just rotate it. Then sprinkle with baking soda and let set for 10-15 minutes or more and vacuum thoroughly. Make sure to get the crevices really well.

Curtains--I don't change mine out usually, but I do wash them. This makes the room smell really fresh and clean, especially if you hang them outside to dry!

Bedding--I swap out our comforters every season. I have a lightweight one for the warmer months and a thick warm one for the colder ones. I launder both then swap. If you swap your sheets too, now is the time to launder them and swap too! (Hot flashes keep me from using flannel sheets!)

This is a short list of what I do at the change of seasons. What is on your cleaning list?
