A Housewife's Guide to Setting Up A Kitchen

I realized it has been a while since I have done a post about being a housewife! And with my oldest talking about moving off campus next year or the year after, it got me thinking about how to set up house. Particularly the kitchen.
When Hubby and I got married, we were very young. (18 and 19) And we started with nothing. His mom got us a lot of our household goods secondhand and we accumulated a lot from family and friends. Over the years, I have realized that there are certain things that are absolutely indispensable, some are nice to have and others are just frivolous and you don't need. So, if you are just starting out, or like me, you have one leaving the nest soon, here is a list of the essentials that are needed for the well prepared kitchen!

3 pans in different sizes- small, medium and large. I prefer the copper bottom ones but, that's just me
A good stock pot- I found mine at Wal Mart for less than 10$
Lids to fit all of them
1 big cast iron pan well seasoned
1 small cast iron pan well seasoned (I like this for making egg sandwiches in the morning)

1 13x9 inch pan
2 cookie sheets
2 9 inch cake pans (These are good not only for cakes but when you want to make cinnamon buns too!)

At least 1 good sharp knife for chopping, etc. (A knife set is nice, but not necessary)
Cutting boards-at least 2 plastic is the best to make sure there is no contamination
Potato peeler
Hand mixer
Potato masher
At least 2 big mixing spoons (I prefer wooden but plastic is ok too)
At least 1 big mixing bowl

Now, remember, this is just the basic kitchen. These are what you need to start out! I will post later with the "Nice to Have" List!
