One of my favorite cookbooks...

Is from 1968 and was my mom's when she got married. It is torn, missing some pages, especially in the index, and covered with stains, but is still my go to when I'm looking for a recipe. At Christmas and Thanksgiving it gets used heavily because I make the English Tea Ring and the sugar cookies out of it and I use the pie crust recipe. The English Tea Ring is a tradition my mom started when we were kids. There were 3 of us, my 2 brothers and I, and she would make the tea ring for Christmas morning breakfast. For those of you who haven't had one, a tea ring is a sweet bread that is rolled out and filled with sugar, cinnamon, and raisins, rolled into a long tube and formed into a ring and baked. Well, after my mom passed, until I got really baking well, there were no tea rings. One Christmas I decided to try my hand at it and give one to each of my brothers. The thing about my mom, is when she baked them, she would know they were done when it was black on the bottom. I mean black. I mean so hard you eat the top and leave the bottom. When I baked them, it didn't turn out like that. My middle brother bit into it, looked at me and said, "This isn't right. I can eat the whole thing". I'm sure she was trying to smack him.
I know there have been many other versions made of this cookbook, more up to date and modern. But this version seems to be the best to me. And I thought it was just because it was my mom's but my best friend found one at a Goodwill and has been hunting down copies of it for her girls when they grow up, she loves it so much. Go find yourselves a copy!
